The Faculty of Higher Education at the Aragon Campus of UNAM (Facultad de Estudios Superiores Aragon) participates in the Wikipedia Education Program.

El proyecto educativo de la FES Aragón de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, se integra por profesores, alumnos y demás miembros de la comunidad universitaria, que asociados en forma libre y sin intervención alguna de las autoridades universitarias, busca formar aprendices en la utilización de las tecnologías de la información, para difundir a través de la plataforma wikimedia, el conocimiento de las respectivas areas multidisciplinarias profesionales, que componen los distintos saberes de ésta Facultad.

The Faculty of Philosophy and Literature (Facultad de Filosofía y Letras) at UNAM participates in the Wikipedia Education Program.

Wikimedia Mexico pre chapter began talks about collaboration in March of 2011 with the Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the National Authonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

In December of 2011, the Club Wikipedia Filosofía y Letras UNAM student organization was founded and was lead by Pablo Miranda Quevedo and Ernesto Priani. We did workshops and talks about Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects with the alumni.

In Mexico, everybody who wants to get a higher education must complete a requirement of "social service", a period of six months doing professional practices in a government institution or a non-profit association. Wikimedia Mexico and the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy achieved that the participation in Wikimedia projects is recognized as social service. Near 12 students of history and philosophy have obtained the certificate of social service writing and improving Spanish Wikipedia.

Within this project, Wikimedia México help to the group of the Dr. Alberto Betancourt Posada, teacher of the faculty, in the development and publishing of the Diccionario de Hermenéutica Social, presented in June 2013 in Mexico City. Some parts of the dictionary was extracted to Spanish Wikipedia.

Following the model developed by Wikimedia Argentina, Wikimedia México's Carmen Alcázar and Alan Lazalde works among with Francisco Barrón and Pablo Miranda in the construction of a DIY scanner, for the developing of project with the incunabula of Samuel Ramos Library, Wikimedia Commons and Wikisource. The project is still in analysis by the authorities and legal departments of UNAM.

Since September 2013, the faculty and Wikimedia México began a reorganization of the Wikimedia initiative. We are developing of the pilot of the Wikimedia México Education Program, with the objective of get a model and tools adapted to the local needs and easily replicable. This projects will be the participation of pedagogy students in the design of the program and five teachers with their groups as a pilot phase. And we are involving more students to the social service option, continuing the implementation of a successful program and the possibility of expanding to another faculties.

Professors in the Faculty of Chemistry (Facultad de Química) at UNAM were introduced to Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects in March 2015. Since August 2015 after Wikimania, teachers from this faculty began the work advised by Wikimedia México.

Este proyecto dio inicio en agosto del año 2015, fue la base para elaborar la Tesina: "APRENDIZAJE DE BIOLOGÍA MOLECULAR EN LA LICENCIATURA DE BIOLOGÍA, BASADA EN EL USO DE WIKIPEDIA", propuesta que para obtener el título de Licenciada en Psicología, elaboró la M. en C. Georgina Nieto Castañeda.

La maestra Georgina Nieto Castañeda, es docente en diversas áreas de ciencias, desde el año de 1999. Ha sido docente a nivel básico, medio superior y superior en las carreras de Nutrición, QFBt, QFB, Ingeniería Química, Ingeniería Industrial, Criminología-Criminalística, y Biología. Todas en instituciones privadas, excepto la carrera de Biología, para la cual fue elaborada la propuesta y que inspiró este proyecto.

La maestra Georgina Nieto ha impartido más de 40 cursos a nivel superior, y la mayor experiencia la tiene en las 4 asignaturas que imparte en la Facultad de Ciencias de la UNAM: Biología Molecular de la Célula I y II, Química (general) y Química Orgánica. Todas asignaturas obligatorias en la currícula de la Licenciatura en Biología de la Facultad de Ciencias de la UNAM.

Las ideas sobre las cuales se fundamenta este proyecto, fueron tomadas de la reunión anual de Wikimedia (Wikimania 2015).

Social Service

In 2012 the UNAM accepted the program of social service editing Wikipedia articles. After a impasse, from September 2015 will be revamped.

CUAED

The Open University and Distance Education Coordination (in Spanish, CUAED) started collaboration with Wikimedia Mexico in 2012, when the chapter gave talks about Wikipedia and education to 300 teachers of this coordination. In 2015 both CUAED and WMMX are organizing the #WikiUNAM First Edit-a-thon that will held on September 24th, 2015.
