Summary: The Education team at the Wikimedia Foundation is very excited to launch the first edition of the Wikimedia & Education Greenhouse! This is an immersive co-learning experience that will equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and support needed to bring education project ideas to life and scale them into high-impact initiatives in their community. Applications are open until May 12!

Do you have an innovative idea for a Wikimedia and education project but aren't sure where to start? Have you ever wanted to grow your knowledge and skills on project management and apply them to an education project you're conducting? Do you have a lot of experience doing education outreach in the movement and you want to share it with other Wikimedians who are just starting? If you replied "yes" to any of these questions then the Wikimedia & Education Greenhouse is for you!

We're piloting this initiative to equip a team of highly motivated Wikimedians with the skills, support and resources they need to bring an education project idea into reality. In addition, we want to offer a co-learning opportunity for our global community to expand their skills and knowledge in a supportive environment, where they can grow as education leaders in our movement.

There are two ways to join the Wikimedia & Education Greenhouse:

  • A a team. This means getting together in a group of (minimum) 3 Wikimedians to propose a project idea. One selected team will receive seed funding to kickstart their project, two on-site visits from a staff member of the Wikimedia Foundation's education team for contextual support, and access to an online course on project management for Wikimedia and education projects.
  • As an individual. This means completing a quick form that will register your interest and motivations. This will give you free access to the online course on project management for Wikimedia and education projects, a co-learning platform with bi-weekly lessons, engaging tasks, and forums for peer discussion. This course is open for all Wikimedians interested around the world and it will start on July 1st.

Our goal is that by the end of this experience, participants will have the knowledge and skills needed to plan, implement, and evaluate high-impact education initiatives that contribute to the Wikimedia projects and result in student learning outcomes around 21st century skills. Additionally, we hope to strengthen the bonds and collaboration in our community, to foster the exchange of ideas, and to collectively promote the value of Wikimedia in education.

We hope you are excited by this new opportunity and that you apply to join us! If you have any additional questions, please send a message to mguadalupe﹫wikimedia.org and we will be happy to answer them, and to provide you guidance on the application process if needed. Remember the applications close on May 12.
