Regional Meeting of Latin American Education by the EWOC

Summary: First Regional Meeting of Latin American Education was organized by the EWOC (EduWiki Outreach Collaborators) of the Education team of the Wikimedia Foundation.

In the search by the group of volunteers of the EWOC (EduWiki Outreach Collaborators) to know and support the work of the chapters and education groups that are part of the Wikimedia Foundation, the first Regional Meeting of Latin American Education was organized by the EWOC.

The agenda of this meeting began with the presentation of each one of the people; among them, the coordinators of the education programs of the Wikimedia chapters of the region (Latin America), teachers, and the Foundation team participated.

It was divided into moments: in the first instance, the work carried out by the Wikimedia Mexico Education Program was shared. Likewise, the Education and Human Rights Program of Wikimedia Argentina was presented, and a proposal for this year led by its coordinators was shared about a contest focused on editing and improving articles on Wikipedia in Spanish related to the educational phenomenon, later the project "Reading Wikipedia!", coordinated and developed by Wikimedistas de Bolivia with the support of the Wikimedia Foundation education team last year. It is a proposal that seeks to have a second stage to focus on specific issues that arose in the execution and evaluation. On the other hand, our colleague from Wikimedia Chile shared her experience and the challenges she faced, challenges that have made it possible to develop projects such as the free virtual course for educational communities in Chile and the region.

We had a space to share the work that the teachers have developed in relation to the Wikimedia projects, as well as the resolution of doubts and questions.

We were able to visualize that these meetings are of great help, they allow us to give continuity and think about new individual and collaborative projects in the region. It is sought in the next meetings to integrate more interested people.

Encuentro Regional de Educación Latinoamericano por el EWOC

Resumen: Primer Encuentro Regional de Educación Latinoamericano organizado por el EWOC (EduWiki Outreach Collaborators) del equipo de Educación de la Fundación Wikimedia

En la búsqueda por parte del grupo de voluntarias y voluntarios del EWOC (EduWiki Outreach Collaborators) para conocer y apoyar el trabajo de los capítulos y grupos de educación que forman parte de la Fundación Wikimedia se organizó el primer Encuentro Regional de Educación Latinoamericano por el EWOC.

La agenda de este encuentro inició con la presentación de cada una de las personas, entre ellas participaron coordinadoras de los programas de educación de los capítulos Wikimedia de la región (América Latina), docentes y equipo de la Fundación.

Se dividió en varios momentos: en primera instancia se compartió la labor que realiza el Programa de Educación de Wikimedia México; asimismo se presentó el Programa de Educación y Derechos Humanos de Wikimedia Argentina y se compartió una propuesta para este año que lideran sus coordinadoras sobre un concurso enfocado a la edición y mejora de artículos en la Wikipedia en español relacionados con el fenómeno educativo; posteriormente se compartió el proyecto “¡Leamos Wikipedia!” que coordinaron y desarrollaron Wikimedistas de Bolivia con el apoyo del equipo de educación de la Fundación Wikimedia el año pasado, es una propuesta que busca tener una segunda etapa para enfocarse a temas puntuales que surgieron en la ejecución y evaluación. Por otra parte, nuestra colega de Wikimedia Chile compartió su experiencia y los retos a los que se ha enfrentado, retos que han permitido desarrollar proyectos como el curso virtual gratuito para las comunidades educativas de Chile y la región

Tuvimos un espacio para compartir el trabajo que han desarrollado los docentes con relación a los proyectos Wikimedia, así como la resolución de dudas y preguntas.

Pudimos visualizar que estos encuentros son de gran ayuda, nos permiten dar continuidad y pensar nuevos proyectos individuales y colaborativos en la región. Se busca en las próximas reuniones integrar a más personas interesadas.
