Oslo Metropolitan University is one of Wikimedia Norges long-term partners, and they have now decided to commit even further to knowledge sharing online, with giving three students jobs as “Wikipedia-assistants” at the university.

This is a new way for higher education institutions to work with Wikipedia in a Norwegian context. This was one of the methods Oslo Metropolitan University came up with for improving knowledge sharing after Wikimedia Norge had an introduction course for the communication staff there in June 2018.

The student assistants have had Wikipedia editing training with Wikimedia Norge, and the plan is that after a few months work, Wikimedia Norge will also give an introduction course to Wikidata. Besides from that, the university works independently on this project. The Wikipedia experts to-be are all students at Library and Information Science, but not necessarily experienced wikipedians.

Their work will be helping the institution to in sharing knowledge from their fields of expertise at Wikipedia, through updating sources, article writing, and aiding academics who wish to be more active on Wikipedia.

We are excited to see how Oslo Metropolitan University is proving to be a strong partner with willingness to test new approaches to Wikimedia+Academia collaborations!
