WoALUG and REC Albania continue their collaboration on Wikimedia in education

Summary: Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group since 2019 is collaborating with REC Albania, an environmental NGO, to train their instructors and students on Wikimedia projects. Two main project we're working on are Wikipedia in Albanian and Wikidata.

We started our collaboration with REC Albania in March 2019. They are working closely with the Faculty of Science of Tirana and Faculty of History of Tirana and we are helping them to fulfill their goal of educating students about biodiversity and environmental issues. In January 2020 we co-organized 2 editathons to improve the articles related to natural monuments of Albania. There were 20 participants in each edition. And more than 40 articles were created and about 60 articles were improved. The first editathon was a bit more formal and in collaboration with 2 teachers during the first hour, we explained the rules of editing and how to write the articles in Albanian Wikipedia. During the second hour the students worked on articles they liked the most. REC Albania provided most of the sources to be used.

During the second editathon, most of the participants were the same who participated in the first editathon so the event ran smoothly and focused on improving and writing more articles related to natural monuments.

One of the goals of REC Albania is to educate students about biodiversity, environmental issues, and environmental law.
