On 3rd December, Wikimedia Serbia celebrated 12 years since its founded. This year's celebration was also marked by another jubilee - 10 years since the first student article on Wikipedia in Serbian language was written, which was the official start of Wikipedia Education Program in Serbia. The beginnings of the Educational Program date back to 2005, when Djordje Stakic, one of the founders of Wikimedia Serbia, formulated this idea and presented it at the Faculty of Mathematics.
Thus, in December 2006, the Faculty of Physical Chemistry expressed interest to get involved in this project and soon got involved. The project was also implemented at the beginning of 2007 at the Faculty of Philology, when we got the first student article - ENIAC. There are over 4000 student articles on Wikipedia in Serbian language today. More than 4000 students, pupils, teachers and professors from over 35 educational institutions took part in the project.
Numerous Wikimedia chapters around the world have accepted this program and are developing it in their own countries. "Today, Wikipedia Education Program is very developed in our country and in the world. Thousands of trained students and written articles in Serbia are a good measure of success. Wikimedia Serbia is one of the world's pioneers, since in December 2005 there were only 5 chapters of Wikimedia." said Djordje Stakic, the creator of the Wikipedia Education Program in Serbia.
