Open Foundation West Africa is the first organization to introduce the Wikipedia Education Programme (WEP) in Ghana. Our first institution was Ashesi University, where we partnered the school to set up an education programme and the Ashesi Wiki Club in 2017. Today, the school runs its educational programme and the club with our support.

Ashesi University Wikipedia Club (Ashesi Wiki Club) Writing Contest As part of efforts to encourage students to scale up contributions on Wikimedia projects, OFWA supported Ashesi Wiki Club to organize a writing contest which ran from January 21 to February 20, 2019. A ceremony was organized on April 11 to award participants with most outstanding performances. Winners included Amhol Dhieu Kuany, Atule Samuel and Lwazilwenkosi Mpofu who won a tablet, a hard drive and pendrive/souvenirs respectively.

Ghana Telecom University College Training OFWA organized a Wikipedia session at the Ghana Telecom University College led by our Administrative Executive, Joy Agyepong and Community Engagement Coordinator, Benedicta Nartey as a forerunner for a Wikipedia Education Programme. Students were trained on how to edit Wikipedia and had a hinge on other Wikimedia related projects. This event will possibly culminate into an education programme in the future.

OFWA joins Lancaster University Career Fair In our quest to broaden the reach and scope of the Wikipedia Education Programme (WEP), we participated in the Lancaster University (Ghana) Careers Fair to introduce students to the Open Movement and expose them to opportunities they can harness while volunteering. The team led by our Administrative Executive, Joy Agyepong, further presented an opportunity for us to interact with students and educate them about our organization. This event would possibly morph into morph the establishment of a Wikipedia Education Programme in the University and also encourage summer internships for students with Open Foundation West Africa..
