In the previous school year 2016/17, Wikimedia Serbia has introduced Wikidata into the Education Program. Workshop on editing Wikidata was held at the Faculty of Mining and Geology at the University of Belgrade. In addition to writing articles on Wikipedia in the field of mining and protection, students also worked on editing items on the Wikidata project by adding references within them. Working on the Wikidata is recognized as a good way to improve students' skills by using new and open learning platforms, which can help students in their future work and understanding of issues in a certain field. In particular, very significant was initiative taken by Ranka Stankovic, a professor of the Informatics at the Faculty of Mining and Geology. Mrs Stankovic wanted to introduce the Wikidata to students of the second year. The workshop involved 50 students who edited 27 items, which resulted in 48,025 bytes added. The basic idea was that students understand what the Wikidata is and how items are created, but also to learn how to group data and what is the advantage of the flexibility of data extraction from Wikidata. One of the biggest challenges during the workshop was the fact that until now we didn`t work with the students on this project. However, this example shows that students have understood the future of the Wikidata and its application in the right way.
