Summary: Our traditional event where senior citizens, former students of courses Senior Citizens write on Wikipedia, took place in South Bohemia in a small town called Týn nad Vltavou on the weekend of 17–19th September. It was our fourth year of this kind of event and it was also the most successful one regarding the number of participants and the amount of content.
Our lecturers and former Senior citizens write Wikipedia participants met in Týn nad Vltavou in the local Community Center to write and take photos from Týn nad Vltavou about Týn nad Vltavou. Each participant booked an article topic or found a 'white spot' (a place that is not covered on Wikimedia Commons) on the map and spent the weekend searching for resources, books, and local context. Our program was introduced by the Deputy Mayor and Member of the City Council who generously provided us with the patronage of the town. They also did a guided tour for us to get to know the city and its history. Also, other local stakeholders were very helpful; the coordinator of the Community Center and local museum workers ― they all helped us to have a nice experience along with enough resources and information.
The work itself started much earlier before the weekend because our lecturers and participants have to find all the topics which should be covered and the workload goes on after the weekend. Everyone has to finish their work and upload all photos. That's why we can share our results with some delay, but you can already spot some articles and uploads on our dashboard.
This event is always very optimistic and cheerful because it brings together Wiki editors who know each other only from an online environment. They have the motivation to edit and upload and they get to know each other well. We are really excited and looking forward to organizing such a successful event again. We are very grateful for the support.
