Per Bauer, el Periodisme de Dades no és una nova classe de periodisme, sinó una nova eina que ens permet explicar d’una manera senzilla situacions complexes. Bauer però, alerta dels perills de la sobreinformació i d’utilitzar les visualitzacions sense posar les dades en context. Cal interpretar i analitzar les dades per ser capaços d’entendre-les i utilitzar-les per generar coneixement. Sobre coneixement obert, Bauer ens parla de l’organització Open Knowledge Foundation, i de la seva tasca a favor d’un coneixement accessible, distribuït i compartit.
