Motivbeskrivning: 118-kanonersskeppet Kung Carl sjösatt 1694 i Karlskrona avbildat akterifrån, från sidan och mot galjonen.

Historik: Kung Carl och var länge den svenska flottans största och slagkraftigaste örlogsfartyg. Fartyget var amiralgeneralen Hans Wachtmeisters flaggskepp och förde den unge Karl XII till kontinenten vid utbrottet av det stora nordiska kriget år 1700. För att få ett underlag till Kung Carls utsmyckning kontaktade slottsarkitekten Nicodemus Tessin d y den kände franske konstnären och dekoratören Jean Bérain. Han utarbetade ritningar till dekoren och lät miniatyrmålaren Etienne Compardel utföra den här aktuella målningen. Tillsammans med Bérains ritningar kom målningen sedan att utgöra underlag för bildhuggaren Heinrich Schütz när han snidade skeppets utsmyckningar vid varvet i Karlskrona.
