Inscriptions "APPROX 1900" "Union Hotel. / Herbert St. / 1915 or 1916" "Copyright by L A Inkster, Greymouth"
Notes More recent inscription says 1915 or 1916., and claims it is a Laurie Inkster photograph, but he was too young in 1900, and Shanahan managed the Union Hotel 1892–1905. The negative held in the Alexander Turnbull Library is identified as being by James Ring.
