A Thousand Images of Islam, British Library Updates
Khalili Collections
A bulk upload shared 1,090 images related to Islam on Commons. This is a very diverse set including manuscripts, coins, metalwork, textile artworks, maps, glassware and jewellery: all in beautiful high-resolution. Metadata about the objects was put in Wikidata, bringing the total number of Wikidata items created by this project to 1,033.
The images are in commons:Category:Khalili Collection of Islamic Art and commons:Category:Khalili Collection of Hajj and the Arts of Pilgrimage. They have yet to be properly categorised and there is lots of depiction data that could be usefully added to the Wikidata representations of the objects. Help is very welcome from the community! Many of the objects are manuscripts — or illustrations from manuscripts — of Qurans and other important Islamic works. There is great potential here to make links to other manuscript collections using Wikidata.
The new uploads include two super-high-resolution images. File:Khalili Collection Hajj and Arts of Pilgrimage Talismanic shirt.jpg was given Featured Picture status on Commons, on English Wikipedia, and on Persian Wikipedia. File:Khalili Collection Hajj and Arts of Pilgrimage MSS 1288.jpg was given Featured Picture status on Commons. In total, this project has so far supplied two Featured Pictures on English Wikipedia, two on Persian Wikipedia, and four on Wikimedia Commons. A month ago, the Commons gallery Featured pictures/Non-photographic media/Religion had just one image relating to Islam, as opposed to 75 for Christianity and five for Judaism. The two new images have multiplied the representation of Islam in this small but important corner of Wikimedia.
On English Wikipedia, Khalili Imperial Garniture passed Good Article review, becoming the 4th GA from this project.

July was the fifth month of this residency, and has been a quiet one thanks to summer holidays.
The India Office Records Wikidata project is nearly concluded, with great work being done by Sorbiodunesis.
