Free music on Wikipedia
Wikimedia Sverige is at the start of a new project called Free Music on Wikipedia. The project is about making Swedish copyright-free music available on Wikimedia platforms and thus increasing the knowledge of older Swedish music to a broader public. Initial collaborative partners are Statens musikverk and music from the Swedish music archive called Svenskt visarkiv. This is mostly about older material and recordings that are in the public domain but we will also work with new recordings of older material.
There will be uploads of music files and how the works will be structured and described on Wikidata. In addition, a couple of edit-a-thons will also be implemented as the music also fits into articles. The possibility to listen to music when reading the article is one of the goals in this project. The majority of the project is financed by the Kulturbryggan and will run until 31 December 2020.
NHB webinars
While being working from home during the pandemic the National Heritage Board has been running a series of webinars to increase digital awareness and create learning material for the GLAM and education sector. Topics have been on how to record a short movie, how to cut a podcast, how to make OERs more useful and also on the project Wikimedia Sverige and Nordiska museet have been running to get students to write articles on Wikipedia.
Wikipedia in libraries – Projekt HBTQI
As a continuation of Wikipedia in the libraries, a HBTQI project (LGBT in English) has been started. There is a need to reschedule and do digital events as ordinary edit-a-thons are not possible to implement right now. Several of the planned Pride festivals have also had to cancel due to restrictions on the pandemic.
Within the project, a project page has been created similar to that found in other languages within the same theme. The project page is the platform where everyone can meet and post wishes on articles that can be written. Meetings have been held through video conferencing and two major edit-a-thons are scheduled for the fall. The purpose is simply to create and improve Wikipedia's content on topics related to HBTQI and to do this together. Feel free to join us in the project site!
