Celebrating Ada
October was a month where notable women in the sciences became much more prominent on Wikipedia. A series of training and editing events throughout the month were held as a part of the Ada Lovelace Day celebrations, working to improve the coverage of notable women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Sessions included the Ada Lovelace Festival of Wikipedia workshops in London, Edinburgh and Southampton, an event in partnership with The Royal Society and Medical Research Council, a women in science editathon at Oxford University and another at Kingston University.

Choo choo! All aboard for the National Railway Museum
On 19th October the National Railway Museum in York hosted a railway-themed editathon and backstage pass event. Steam train enthusiasts gathered to take photos and work on articles related to railways and steam trains. One of the museum's curators was also on hand to answer any questions.
Trowel Blazers – archaeology, palaeontology and geology
The Natural History Museum in London, one of the world's finest museums, hosted an event on 19 October focusing on archaeology, palaeontology and geology. What better way to celebrate International Archaeology Day and Earth Science Week? Volunteers and editors got their hands dirty digging through archival source material provided by the Museum's Earth Sciences Library and improving and creating articles relating to female scientists working in related fields.
