Merge edit

Can this be combined with the cool higher ed newsletter that LiAnna edits? There has been discussion in the past about having a wider group contribute to it. Are you thinking of a significantly broader focus than higher ed? (I wouldn't mind seeing other areas of education covered, myself; though we have many fewer projects in those areas.) It seems to me like a merge would be advisable. --Piotrus (talk) 15:00, 18 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
The initiative for this newsletter jelled at the Unconference moderated by LiAnna, with Frank and Annie also in attendence. The idea is to give LiAnna's newsletter its own section within this one in order to have all information in one place. The focus here is broader than higher ed as there are initiatives at other educational institutions what also deserve a place to share ideas. There are many more projects than people are really aware of! Right now, we are collecting names and contacts of people who are interested in contributing and/or "subscribing" to this wiki so that we can promote it and sustain it much like the successful "This Month in GLAM." Im main point of contact at osamadre AT hotmail DOT com or use my name on Facebook to find me. Userpages are less reliable ways of contacting me.--Thelmadatter (talk) 20:16, 18 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

November 2012 issue: Not all articles listed in the headlines section edit

Is there a reason why not all articles of the November 2012 issue have been listed in the headlines section? Beat Estermann (talk) 08:53, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion edit

As I suggested to LiAnna here, in addition to publishing This Month in Education as a talkpage newsletter and an email, could we have an education blog where we post these monthly newsletters at blog.wikimedia.org? There are several "sub-blogs" and to me it would make sense to have an education "sub-blog". --Pine 19:18, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

What are the pros and cons? Beat Estermann (talk) 09:25, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I can't think of any cons other than the time necessary to establish and maintain the sub-blog. The biggest pro, in my opinion, would be the improved visibility and prominence of education related activities. One alternative might be to have the sub-blog be for all outreach and GLAM activities instead of education only, so maybe we would call it "GLAM, Education, and Outreach", "GLAMEO", or just "Outreach". --Pine 19:14, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm really late joining this thread, but I think it's an interesting suggestion, and wanted to try to revive it. Are you suggesting a separate Outreach blog here on Outreach wiki? If so, my concern would be lack of visibility. Although we love our Outreach wiki, my understand is that it's not the most heavily trafficked Wikimedia site. :) What about seeing if it's possible to get Outreach listed in the sidebar at blog.wikimedia.org? Currently, under Navigation, it lists only: Highlights, Tech blog, Global blog, Fundraising, and WikiWomen. And there's also a Community blog, which is what's on the banner of the WikiWomen posts. I'd imagine that Global and Women are featured because of our strategic goals. Is Outreach as important as the Global South and Women? "Increase participation" is also a strategic priority. Would Outreach generate enough content warrant its own blog? Education and GLAM posts are currently included on the Global blog. And, maybe that's appropriate. There are also categories and tags. I don't have the answer to this question, but I'm glad you're asking it, Pine. And I love that you're thinking about things like this, and getting the rest of us to, too. :) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 01:38, 19 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
