Username policy prohibits usernames which are promotional, misleading, or offensive

promotional usernames:
- containing existing company, organization, group, or website names (including non-profit organizations)
- containing domain names or email addresses
misleading usernames:
- close to names of celebrities, notable world figures or events, or known Wikipedians
- containing words like "bot" or "script" which refer to automated editing processes
- containing titles like "admin" or "sysop", which imply authority on Wikipedia
offensive usernames

For technical reasons, a username cannot include the #, / and \ symbols. Any underscores will be converted to spaces. The first letter of a username is automatically capitalized.

Registering a free account takes only a few seconds and has many benefits. Scroll down to the form below, and simply choose a username and password and (optionally) enter your email address, then click "create account".

Choose a username/password

Choose an inoffensive username that identifies you personally, either using your real name, or an alias of your choosing. Do not use your email address or domain name, or the name of any organization you're associated with. (See pros and cons of using your real name.)
For your own security, please choose a strong password that would be difficult to guess; see our article on password strength for help. A typical "strong" password is at least 8 characters long, contains a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers, and is not made up mostly of dictionary words and names.

* You do not have to provide an e-mail address, but if you forget your password, you will not be able to regain access to your account without one. You also need to provide an email address if you wish to enable the "Email this User" feature, to either send or receive emails via Wikipedia. You can provide an email address later on, or change it. Username – Your username will frequently appear publicly on the site; editors who use their real names have sometimes been subjected to harassment. Also consider carefully whether to put personal information about yourself on Wikipedia (especially information that may enable someone to identify you).
Note: The first letter of your username will automatically be capitalized because of technical restrictions (e.g. "john doe" will be displayed as "John doe").
IP address – Your IP address (when logged in) and e-mail address will generally be private, but may be made available to a very small number of users under tightly controlled circumstances related to control of vandalism and other disruption.
Email address – Your e-mail address is not normally displayed or given to anyone, with one exception: if you e-mail another user through Wikipedia, your e-mail address is included in the email, to enable them to reply.
Public record – All edits to the encyclopedia are permanently recorded and publicly visible forever in the history of any page that you edit, as well as on all discussion pages. If you use your real name or a name you use elsewhere, people seeking information about you may see your username and others' comments on your editing. If your editing happens to cause concern, there may be discussion linked to your username.
