The Wikimedia Education Program of the Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia is one of the Wikimedia Foundation project movement which focuses the collaboration between Wikimedia and education in Malaysia. The program has started since 11 December 2016 with our first meeting with a representative from the Wikimedia Education Program. Since then, the user group has been trying to promote Wikimedia and reach out to various educational institution within the country, slowly but consistently throughout the year.
So far, we have had Wikimedia meetups at primary school, high school, college, university and government educational institution. We have also participated on one education-related Wikimedia conference. Our short and medium-term planning is to have meetup with all those level of education in all states of Malaysia, as well as to establish the Wikimedia community (either student club/society/department) at each of the school. Our biggest challenge at the moment is the less exposed Wikimedia to those educational institutions in which people have much less awareness on how Wikimedia projects can greatly contribute to their education process and also the very limited number of people related to Wikimedia community at the moment in Malaysia. Various meetings have been done with more experienced editors in Wikimedia Education Program to help Malaysia fully runs this program in the coming future.

2016
editWikimedia Selangor Meetup 1
editA meetup was held at a café in Petaling Jaya, Selangor on 11 December 2016. This was the first meetup in Malaysia held in collaboration with a representative from Wikipedia Education Program. Introductory presentation to Wikipedia Education Program was held, including the YouTube video showing about Program and Events Dashboard Demo.
2017
editWikimedia Johor Meetup 2
editA meetup was held at a primary school in Johor Bahru, Johor on 8 October 2017 attended by the primary school students. This was the first meetup in Malaysia held at a primary school. The time was chosen to be during the resting period after the exam weeks but before the start of semester break. Introduction to Wikipedia was explained to the student and also means of navigating around articles in Wikipedia was also shown, as well as using Wikipedia to help the students in learning English language. There was also a demo on creating one Wikipedia article.
Wikimedia Johor Meetup 4
editA meetup was held at a college in Johor Bahru, Johor on 9 December 2017 attended by the college students. This was the first meetup in Malaysia held at a college. A comprehensive and detailed steps were shown to the attendees on components of Wikipedia and other projects within the Wikimedia Foundation. An article in Wikipedia also was broken down into sections to highlight the key components which make up an article. Navigating around categories for some particular topics were also shown as a mean to look around from other point of views within the same topic of discussion.
2018

editA meetup was held at a college in Johor Bahru, Johor on 20 January 2018 attended by the college lecturers. Introduction to Wikipedia was shown to the participants as well as navigating around Wikipedia and creating an article. Various questions were asked by the attendees on the legitimacy of Wikipedia for education purpose and how we are suppose to overcome some difficulties arise from it.
Wikimedia Johor Meetup 6
editA meetup was held at a cafe in Johor Bahru, Johor on 24 February 2018 attended by people from a college. The primary discussion about this meetup was to find ways on how to make a collaboration between Wikipedia and the college. Steps and actions needed to be taken to establish the society of Wikipedia editors were also discussed.
Wikimedia Johor Meetup 8
editA meetup was held at a college in Johor Bahru, Johor on 14 July 2018 attended by the college students. Although this meetup was held for the second time at the same college, because the attendees were all new, so the main topic of the meetup was still about the introductory of Wikipedia to the attendees. This time, the meetup focused more on the degree major in which each of the student was taking, and to go deeper into those related subjects of Wikipedia articles. Various means of contribution to Wikipedia was also taught, either from improving any stub article, writing new article, or joining related WikiProject groups.
Wikimedia Kelantan Meetup 1
editA meetup was held at a high school in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan on 6 August 2018 attended by the high school students. This was the first meetup in Malaysia held at a high school. History of Wikimedia movement in Malaysia was told to the audience, and also various problems related to Wikipedia usage was addressed to the audience.
Wikimedia Melaka Meetup 1
editA meetup was held at a private university in Bukit Beruang, Melaka on 6 October 2018 attended by the university students. This was the first meetup in Malaysia held at a private university and with an engineering institution. Various aspects of Wikipedia was taught to the attendees, such as using Wikipedia as a tool for learning and research. A discussion about forming a Wikimedia student society/club/department was also held, with high enthusiasm from the audience.

editA meetup was held at a public university in Gelugor, Penang on 12 December 2018 as part of a conference held by the university. This was the first meetup in Malaysia held at a public university. Introduction to Wikimedia movement in Malaysia and how the audience can participate and collaborate within the movement was explained.
2019
editWikimedia Kedah Meetup 1
editA meetup was held at a public university in Sintok, Kedah on 14 April 2019 with the lecturers and students from the School of Computing. The talk was delivered with the title Wikipedia and Wikimedia Foundation Projects and Their Relevance to the Academia in which various case studies using Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects were shown in university learning, technical paper publication, engagement with student clubs, citation and referencing works etc.
Wikimedia Kelantan Meetup 2
editA presentation-style meetup was held at a public high school in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan on 24 April 2019 with the teachers and students of the school. Introduction to Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects were delivered and also the basic guidelines in editing and writing in Wikipedia.
Wikimedia Johor Meetup 12
editA meetup was held at a private college on 22 June 2019 as a conference, which means it was a full day event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. where every single aspects of Wikimedia Foundation was discussed along with the usual Wikipedia article creation and Wikimedia Commons photo uploads. Global Wikimedia Foundation movement was also introduced (chapters, user groups, communities, conferences (global, regional, local) etc). And also importantly the idea needed to build up the understanding in creating articles which can be related to write school academic paper writing as well as learning process.

editA meetup was held at a university in Songkhla, Thailand on 5 September 2019, marking the first overseas meetup of the Wikimedia Education Program of Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia. The meetup was held with Wikimedia Thailand chapter.

editA meetup was held at a public university in Kuala Lumpur on 10 November 2021 to introduce Wikimedia Foundation projects to the university students within the related faculty as well as the preparation for WikiGap 2022 in March 2022. Various aspects and projects within Wikimedia projects were briefed to the participants as well as some small hands on workshop on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons editing.
2022
editWikimedia Perak Meetup 1
editA meetup was held in Ipoh on 18 August 2022 as the first meetup ever held in the state of Perak. The meetup was held with the local government educational institution, in which the Malay-language Wiktionary was introduced as the main topic of the meetup to the participants. It also included the local indigenous Semai language to preserve that language.
Wikimedia Sabah Meetup 6
editA meetup was held in Sandakan, Sabah on 17 October 2022 at a public high school in collaboration with the local government educational institution. Introduction to Wikimedia was made and there were various activities held with the students. The main purpose for this meetup was to teach the teachers about basic Wikimedia editing skills.

editA meetup was held in Kuala Lumpur on 26 November 2022 at a public university in conjunction with the Wikipedia Asia Month.
Wikimedia Penang Meetup 3
editA meetup was held in Penang on 3 December 2022 at a public university. The meetup focused on translation works in which the translation tools were introduced so that contents could be added to the Malay-language Wikipedia.
