Wikimedia and Education in Portugal: Where are we now

Summary: Following the tradition of previous years, last 11 December Wikimedia Portugal volunteers André Barbosa and Manuel de Sousa were invited by Professor Maria Luísa Malato Borralho to give an Open Class on Wikimedia (Wikipedia, Commons and the Wikimedia movement) to a class of students from Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto; the first group of administrators of the Programs & Events Dashboard have been selected, including two Portuguese speakers: Darwin, from Portugal, and Joalpe, from Brazil; some of the plans for 2019 to keep strengthening the relationship between Wikimedia and Education in Portugal involve a number of partnerships with universities, schools and education related institutions, as well as projects with teachers and students from key educational institutions of Portugal.
Plans for 2019
editA number of projects are being developed in partnership with Centro de Literaturas e Culturas Lusófonas e Europeias / University of Lisbon and Cátedra Infante Dom Henrique, with a focus on Literature, books in the Public Domain and use of Wikidata as a research and educational tool; Wikimedia Portugal is developing its partnership with Universidade Aberta, with a number of new projects in the pipeline; the cooperation with Instituto Superior de Administração e Línguas da Madeira is planed to start in the ground in early 2019, focusing on students from Tourism related courses; cooperation with Sindicato dos Professores da Madeira continues, with a number of formative actions directed to teachers planned to take place regularly along the year; at the Moita Free Software Party 2018 and the Glam Days '18 at the National Library of Portugal a new educational project on Wikidata, Commons and Wikipedia, involving Wikimedia Portugal, the National Library of Portugal and Professor Manuela Aparicio, from the Department of Science of Information and Technology in ISCTE-IUL, University Institute of Lisbon, started developing, and is expected to kick off in early 2019.
