Glam Days '18 at the National Library of Portugal
Glam Days '18
In 27-28 November Wikimedia Portugal and the National Library of Portugal, with the support of meta:Wikimedia CH organized the Glam Days '18 event, with the objective of promoting GLAM initiatives and projects among GLAM institutions of Lisbon, inspired both by the example of the National Library GLAM, and by Glam Wiki Tel Aviv 2018, which was participated by three members of the local chapter.
The first day consisted on a series of workshops and an hackaton on Wikidata, presenting and explaining Wikidata and Wikibase to an audience of librarians and archivists, with a focus on the potential uses and benefits to libraries and archives. It included an hackaton adding items to Wikidata, and a basic workshop on SPARQL. The reception was very good, with all participants showing a native skill on Wikidata editing and a perfect understanding of the project, demonstrating again the strong correlation between libraries and Wikidata.
In the second day we started with an introduction to the various Wikimedia projects, followed by an extensive workshop on licensing and copyright in Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as Commons particularities relating to copyright, and concepts such as Freedom of Panorama, derivated work, De minimis and Threshold of Originality. In the afternoon we focused in GLAM projects and Wikidata. Paulo Perneta from WMPT and Miguel Mimoso Correia from the National Library explained what GLAM projects are, their advantages for the institutions taking part on them. Miguel spoke about his own experience in GLAM projects, including in the course of the Glam with the National Library and the impacts on the institutions he has been observing, mentioning, among others, the case of the National Library of Wales. Helena Patrício from the National library presented the semantic Web, linked data and Wikidata, and Paulo and Miguel spoke about Wikidata in the context of libraries.

State of the Glam
The National Library showed interest in installing Wikibase, as well as having a Wikipedian in Residence in the near future. New dumps of the database, including the BNP authorities database (above 1,7 million entries) and the online catalogue (1,2 million) have been generated and are now available at the OpenData BNP portal. We are working on them, matching the data using Mix'n'Match and OpenRefine and updating Wikidata. Some new sets of digitalized works are now prepared and ready to upload. We have been told by the National Library that the institution will make available for uploading to the Wikimedia projects the full resolution versions of part of the digitalized works. A new BNP Catalog ID property has been proposed, for the IDs of the full online catalogue of the National Library. Finally, on the course of the Glam Days a number of initiatives involving Universities and Wikidata have been planned to be launched in early 2019.
