FindingGLAMs, a project aimed at improving the coverage of GLAM institutions on Wikidata, is in full swing. This spring we have been busy building a crowdsourcing campaign to make it easier for GLAM professionals to edit and add data about the institutions they're familiar with – hopefully a valuable complement to official datasets which are often out of date or deficient! In the centre of the campaign is a new, GLAM-focused version of Monumental, which is being developed by Paweł Marynowski. We've also been working on getting the accompanying documentation up so that it's ready when the campaign starts mid-May.

Sheet music from Musikverket

Wikimedia Sverige's collaboration project with the Swedish Performing Arts Agency continues. For the first time, Musikverket has shared some scanned sheet music from its archives. The files are linked to the recordings that we uploaded previously, making it possible to go from the music sheet to the audio file – and the other way round.

The first pilot of the Wikimedia Commons Data Roundtripping project is out!

Wikimedia Commons Data Roundtripping project partner Swedish Performing Arts Agency and the team invites everyone to translate descriptions of historical glass plate pictures from Swedish to English. The translation drive continues for two more days until midnight May 9th CET.

Translators can use Google Translate as a starting point and then finalise the translation before submitting. They can follow the progress in a progress bar or see how they perform by checking out the leaderboard. The organisation setting up the campaign can download the results as a csv to import into their own system.

The other two pilots will be released later. Nationalmuseum pilot will retrieve authority ids from Wikidata for items in their collections to make use of third party data about those items. The Nordic Museum pilot will create depicts statements to their contributions in Wikimedia Commons.

Join translating!

Digikult

At the conference Digikult several presentations related to the Wikimedia projects were given. From the National Museum of Fine Arts Anna Jansson (working with communications) and Karin Glaseman (digital coordinator) talked about the journey from Open Access to Open Museum, and the work they have done making both data and collections open and available. From Wikimedia Sverige Axel Pettersson talked about being a Wikimedian in Residence at the National Museums for World Culture and Alicia Fagerving presented about connecting and including library data in Wikidata, and the extra value that gives to institutions. Also related is a presentation by Albin Larsson from the Swedish National Heritage Board about generous search interfaces and ways that can improve the way users investigate and explore collections.

On the last day of Digikult Aron Ambrosiani form the Nordic Museum, Alicia Fagerving, and Albin Larsson hosted a Wikimedia Commons workshop introducing the attendees to the basics of Wikimedia Commons and the Pattypan upload tool.

Licensing

Parallell to the workshop about Wikimedia Commons another workshop about licensing and Creative Commons were hosted by Kristina Alexandersson and Axel Pettersson. After talking about open and free licenses and discussing cases from the participants collections most of the questions concerned things like GDPR, Personality rights and other Non-copyright restrictions issues.
