GLAM/Newsletter/February 2011/Contents/News in brief
Wikimedia France and Château de Versailles have signed a partnership to facilitate contacts between the contributors to Wikimedia projects and the teams of the Château de Versailles, in French as well as other language Wikipedias. During this partnership, and for the first time in France, Benoît Evellin (Trizek) will be a "Wikipedian in Residence", spending six months of his master-degree final training-period, starting at mid-February 2011.

Versailles Palace hosts Wikipedian in Residence
editActivities will be coordinated with the Wikimedia communities on homepages at the French Wikipedia, English Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, but every language can join the project. During the six-months period the Château will invite Wikimedians on backstage pass tours, special visits or meetings between the specialists and contributors to Wikipedia, competitions on articles and photography events. GLAM specialists (researchers or curators) and staff of the Palace will be trained how to use Wikimedia projects, and encouraged to share their knowledge, sources, photos, etc.
New GLAM collaboration
editOne of the first GLAM-Wikimedia content donations from a large institution was the 2008 donation from the Bundesarchiv. It was announced last November that they would not be making any more content available to us.[1] Luckily, though, a new collaboration has sprung up with The Museum for Hamburg History. They will be donating some 200 images of a country house restoration.[2] Some of these will be provided in high quality to be digitally restored and hopefully nominated for Featured picture status. Following the upload, help will be needed with adding categories and information templates to the pictures.

Within one month of beginning the upload, 209 images (2.24%) are used in articles on 32 different Wikipedias. 195 of them are used on the English Wikipedia alone. The most re-used image is of Vivien Leigh and Lawrence Olivier disembarking from a plane in Brisbane. The most viewed articles that use the donated images images are Brisbane, Kangaroo and Rum.
