Finland's First Wikimedian in Residence
The first Wikimedian in Residence in Finland has started his work at the National Archives of Finland (Kansallisarkisto). Miku Malinen (or User:Lentokonefani) began his non-military service in the beginning of February and will continue until mid-December. His work will be focused on heraldry and will, in addition to Wikimedia-related tasks, include assisting in other heraldry projects and digitizing archive material.
During the year, Malinen will train the National Archives' personnel to use Wikipedia, edit Wikipedia articles on the Archives and heraldry, and perhaps work on heraldic categorization and coat of arms information on Wikidata. His main goal is to create a basis for cooperation between Wikimedians and the National Archives, so that the National Archives would be willing to keep sharing its material with Wikimedians in the future and create a Wikimedia culture within the Archives.
Wikimedia Finland will use Malinen's experiences to hopefully create opportunities for Wikimedians in Residence in other organizations in the future.

National gallery of Finland released artwork photos under CC0
The Finnish National Gallery, which contains Ateneum, Kiasma and Sinebrychoff art museums, opened 12,000 artworks under CC0 license. The metadata for their collection had already been under CC0, but now 12,000 images of their collection are also licensed with CC0. The images can be downloaded as lower resolution files from the National Gallery’s website and with a higher resolution from Europeana. The metadata can be queried using API or it can be downloaded as a file.
The National Gallery also made a presentation on the Open Data Day event by Open Knowledge Foundation, where they told about the background of the opening. It was very interesting to hear about how the opening of the collection started with small openings several years ago, for example by uploading architectural photos of the Kiasma building which were also used in Wikipedia edithatons at the time. This tradition continues on March 7 when there is an editathon at Sinebrychoff Art Museum where it’s possible to use the released images.

Open education week
Wikimedia Finland is collaborating with IT teachers and National museum of Finland in the Wikileap project which creates open materials for primary education. Wikileap held a presentation at Open Data Day about the open materials for basic education. At the event, there were also discussions on how to present the political decision systems. This resulted in at least one concrete action which is that we will store the presidents, ministers and parliament members of Finland to Wikidata using properties defined in Wikidata:WikiProject every politician.
As a part of the open education week, Teromakotero made a webinar on open education materials and next, we will continue the series of the events on March 14 with a workshop in the National Museum. In the workshop, we are finding methods to link the open content to museum’s permanent exhibition about Finland’s independence and vice versa. In practice, we are going to find items from the exhibition to use it as a topic in Wikileap content. For example, the CSCE convention has a rather good Wikipedia article and it is easy to extend it with other free content. A real-world convention was held at a building next to the museum and it can be seen from the space that is dedicated to CSCE in the exhibition. So in that place, students can get the idea where it actually happened and it is not just something which is in the books.

Environment editathon in Oulu
On 24 and 25 February 2018 there was an environment related edithaton in the Oulu City Library. Kulttuurinavigaattori made a presentation about Wikipedia and was the tutor at the event.
Closing the gender gap in Finland
In Finland, #WikiGap will take place 8th of May at the University of Helsinki´s Think Corner. Wikimedia Suomi organises the event together with the Swedish embassy in Helsinki and University of Helsinki's Think Corner. We are currently looking for partner organisations to participate in to the event, which is also open to registration. The aim is to create articles of prominent Finnish women in the fields of science, economy and politics.
