GLAM CSI user stories
The first results of the GLAM CSI project are ready for review by the Wikimedia community. As previously described (March, April), the GLAM CSI – Contributor Study Initiative is a 2024 project to assess the contribution pipeline in the Wikimedia technical infrastructure for supporting cultural and heritage partnerships and projects led by Andrew Lih and the Smithsonian Institution in the United States. The goal is to produce real-life user stories to provide a common base of understanding around the dynamics of GLAM wiki work.
Feedback was gathered from an online survey of more than 50 constituents and GLAM organizations, as well as interviews with GLAM wiki community members in the GLAM Wiki Global Telegram group and the recent meta:Wikimedia Hackathon.
For June 2024, a set of three detailed user stories has been created for public comment, which can be done directly on the associated talk pages. We invite feedback and input on the following scenarios that capture a variety of GLAM wiki needs:
- meta:GLAM_CSI/User story – Image reconciliation uploader – Captures the issues of image uploading and reconciliation, focusing on the needs of more complex Commons-based uploading and enrichment of structured data.
- meta:GLAM CSI/User story – Women scientists reconciliation – Focuses on Wikidata work and managing worklists and reconciliation using tools such as OpenRefine or other toolkits.
- meta:GLAM CSI/User story – Wiki Loves – Describes the workflow and needs of Wiki Loves Monuments managers in working with photo uploaders and new contributors, while running the world’s largest photo contest.
User stories related to WikiBase and mass data synchronization are currently in draft form and will be published shortly.
The latest status of the GLAM CSI project will be presented at Wikimania, with the session conducted in person and hybrid format online.
For more information, please visit the main project page at meta:GLAM CSI, where you can sign up to be informed of progress and leave feedback.
