Professional Organization for Women in the Arts (POWarts) and the Museum of Modern Art, with support from Wikimedia New York City held a meetup. NYC/Art And Feminism 2017, on March 11, 2017.

Art+Feminism and The Women You Have Never Met

WikiProject Women in Red held a month long virtual meetup, WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/37 in support of Art+Feminism.

Art And Feminism: Greater Philadelphia

Art and Feminism continues to grow in the Philadelphia area. This year there were at least six edit-a-thons in the area: Temple University, Saint Joseph's University (by video conference with Temple), Moore College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, Bryn Mawr College, and Philadelphia Museum of Art. My impression is that most people attending this year have at least some experience editing and that the number of people with no experience at all is smaller. Editors may also be more likely this year to improve existing articles rather than to try to create new ones. People who attended Art And Feminism events in previous years are now hosting their own events.

Thanks to everyone who organized, hosted and attended events! Most events did not have a specific focus for editing. However, the Philadelphia Museum of Art event highlighted women watercolorists from their current show American Watercolor in the Age of Homer and Sargent. The associated published book is a terrific resource containing lots of research about women artists and their works. Kathleen Foster, the curator of the show, attended the edit-a-thon. A teacher from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) who is using Wikipedia in her class also brought her class to PMA. It was a day-long event, where a number of new articles were created.

We advertised upcoming edit-a-thons at events throughout Women's History Month. We also announced a new WikiSalon, an open editing and coaching session which will occur on the second Saturday of each month, at the Chemical Heritage Foundation, from 1-3 p.m. The first WikiSalon with be on Saturday, April 8, 2017. We encourage editors to bring their Art And Feminism articles, or other topics of interest, to the WikiSalon for further help, feedback, and mutual enthusiasm.

Wikipedia + Libraries: Better Together Update

This is an update about Wikipedia + Libraries: Better Together, a project focused on the "L" in GLAM! Wikipedia + Libraries is a 16-month project to bring together Wikipedia and public libraries in the U.S. The most recent news is that Monika Sengul-Jones (me!) has joined OCLC as the Wikipedian-in-Residence. I'm working with the WebJunction team to design and deliver an online training program for hundreds of U.S. public library staff to learn about Wikipedia and what it can bring to their libraries and patrons. I'm also in the position to build connections/facilitate communication between public libraries and Wikipedians/Wikimedians. In the next few months, we're doing an awareness building campaign that will highlight the positive impact that Wikipedia engagement has brought to public libraries already. I'd love to hear from public library staff about their experiences with Wikipedia/Wikimedia.
