Wiki Loves Monuments Brasil 2023 and Open Midiateca
Wiki Loves Monuments Brasil
The Wiki Loves Monuments Brazil 2023 contest occurred between September 1st and 30th in Brazil and it counted more than 13 thousand images from 122 photographers. Those photographs represent monuments of 146 cities of 20 of the 26 states and the Federal District.
Wiki Loves Pará
This year, in commemorations of the Wiki Loves Pará initiative, we had a prize category exclusive for the best photograph of that state! In addition to that, we promoted events to engage participants in Pará, such as the Wiki Takes Bragança and Wiki Takes Cachoeira do Ariri. The winner was a photograph of the Francisco Bolonha Municipal Meat Market, taken by the photographer Paul R. Burley during the contest in September of this year.
Best images and Best contributors
The other categories of prizes were Best Contributors and Best Images. In the first one, we gave prizes to the 10 photographers that have more illustrated monuments previously without free-licensed images; Together, they illustrated for the first time almost 740 monuments, of the total of 1060. The later category is the main one, in which the jury selects 10 images to represent the country in the international phase of the contest. The ten images represent the states of Goiás, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina e São Paulo and are displayed next:
In total, we had expressive numbers of photographs (more than 13 thousand), a recovery in the number of participants (12% more than the last year), with a general retention rate of approximately 24% and 9% for newcommers.

Open Midiateca
The "Open Midiateca" project is another great contribution of the Secretary of State for Culture of Espírito Santo (SeCult-ES) to the free knowledge movement. Over the last month, Wiki Movimento Brasil, with the support of InternetLab, has been analyzing items from the collections of 10 institutions from Espírito Santo in order to help them with copyright issues and free licensing. And we already uploaded 1,200 images from the collections of Palácio Anchieta, Galeria Homero Massena, Arquivo Público do Estado do Espírito Santo and Museu do Colono; as well as images of the interior of their buildings, most of which are of historical importance to the state.
Once again, SeCult-ES is a pioneer when it comes to the free dissemination of Espírito Santo culture. And WMB maintains its commitment to supporting actions like this, which contribute to increasing the international visibility of Brazil's multiple cultures.
