New publication about access to digitised cultural heritage
Passenger Pigeon Manifesto
"A call to public galleries, libraries, archives, and museums to liberate our cultural heritage that has already been digitised. Illustrated with the cautionary tales of extinct species and our lack of access to what remains of them."
Signed by a wide range of professionals and organisations, the manifesto was published on multiple online platforms and will appear in print in the journal Collections. The manifesto can be read here. Tweets for sharing about the publication are available here and here.
I am really concerned that this Manefesto is being circulated in the Wikimedia community: it has been widely criticized by practicing professionals in the GLAM space, and isn't very aligned with the Wikimedia movement's long term investment in professionals making choices about Open Access based on their own institutional context.
