Talk:TED conferences
TEDx
editWill TEDx events also be within the scope of this project? I know they are an offshoot of the main TED but they also seem to have much in common with Wikipedia from the group-sourcing perspective. Curious as to the thoughts on this. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 06:41, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- There are lots of TEDx talks in this project, but the dataset is restricted to talks on TED.com rather than on YouTube, so the ones you will find are the prize winners of some category. You can search the dataset for TEDx to find them. --Jane023 (talk) 16:07, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
Many links for this project
editIn looking at this project with great interest, I would suggest that there are too many links to this project's work already. And before it gets further and as momentum grows, I would suggest having some sort of collocation of links and/or putting as much information in one area as possible. I can see there's a Wikimedia Outreach page, a GLAM page, and then attendant Wikidata pages. There are probably more? This is confusing and will make project management -- and from my own selfish perspective of wanting to participate and/or quickly check in on the progress here -- very difficult for a casual user to see what is going on. So I think this could be improved from an organizational standpoint. I would be happy to help but don't want to intrude....
Would some sort of tabbed header be a helpful thing? This is what we do over at WM NYC, Art+Feminism, AfroCROWD, etc. It helps to collocate information, even if the pages are pointing all over the place. See WM NYC.
I would also like more information on the organizers and their affiliations so there is a bit more transparency here, especially as these are paid positions. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 06:50, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- Wow BrillLyle thanks for your offer! Only Andy and I are paid and the rest are all volunteers. I too would like to set up a project page with tabs, but because I want to run it as a multi-lingual landing page I have hesitated where to put it (either Wikidata, where the data actually resides, or here). I would be more than happy to chat on Skype or FB about how this is currently setup. The lists I think should be on Local Wikipedias for those wanting to write articles, but for people contributing labels and referenced statements in their languages, we also have lists on Wikidata. I think we should collect the points for the challenge in the same location as the landing page (so either Wikidata or here). The GLAM page is just an official landing page for the English Wikipedia. The definitive lists are currently in my userspace on other Wikipedia projects and I will link them to that page as well in case anyone wants to run the content translation tool for this competition. --Jane023 (talk) 16:17, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
NYC TED Fellow/Academic interested in helping out with this project
editHi my username is SheridanFord but I bet you can figure out who I am among the TED Fellows in NYC. I have been an active member of the WIkimedia NYC Chapter of Wikipedia editors. I've been teaching Wikipedia in my courses since last year. I'd be VERY interested to see how I might help TED with this project. Best, --SheridanFord (talk) 22:15, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
