I became a librarian because I was a Wikipedian. Coming from a small town with an almost-always-closed public library, Wikipedia was my window to a larger world. When I had the privilege of a good library nearby, my goal was clear: sharing knowledge in the Wikimedia Projects, as others did for me.
In February 2023, I joined the Wikimedia Foundation to work as the Senior Program Officer, Libraries as part of the Culture & Heritage team (previously known as GLAM & Culture) which works within Community Programs larger team.
My team is working to achieve the following goals, in the next five years:
Movement organizers and volunteers understand GLAM (Culture and Heritage institutions and practitioners) motivations and are confident to approach suitable content partners for their projects.
GLAM adopt open access policies and advocate for free knowledge.
GLAM contribute large volumes of high-impact images to Wikimedia projects using accessible tools that are well documented and supported.
Content contributed by GLAMs is discoverable and used by communities to address gaps in knowledge and representation.
Resources and workflows are emerging for the integration of intangible heritage and oral knowledge in Wikimedia projects.
There is a robust exchange of knowledge and shared standards between the movement and GLAM professionals, leading to linked open data for cultural heritage.
