This page gives an overview of the qualifications required to become a teacher within the school system in the Bolivia. It also lists the different training institutions and training a teacher receives.
Teacher Qualifications
The new law sets as its main objectives for teacher education to: train critical, reflexive, self-critical, innovative and research oriented professionals, who are committed to democracy, social transformations, and the full inclusion of all Bolivians in society’ (Ministerio de Educación de Bolivia 2010, Article 33).
Teacher Training Institutions
Pre-service teacher education is provided in 27 Normales, as well as in 20 smaller scale Academic Units that are created to serve those living in more remote areas.
