View it! Editing Functionality: Final Update!
View it! can now be used to copy images directly into articles and add P18 statements in Wikidata!
View it! has new editing functionality
View it! is a new way to access all the images related to articles across all Wikimedia projects. It is available as a user script, which means any logged-in user can install it right now for a new visual experience. Head over to Meta to find the installation instructions. In recent weeks, the View it! development team has worked to add essential editor functions.
When editing, a copy button (small clipboard) will show up in the right-hand corner of all View it! results, allowing users to copy and paste images to articles in visual and source editors. Once an editor pastes in an image, they'll be able to add a caption (or copy one from Commons). A caption will be automatically added for results that have a caption within the Structured Data on Commons. Please note this is only when there is an SDC caption in the project's language.
For Wikidata editors, items without P18 (image) statements will feature an additional button on View it! results. The plus button (next to the copy button) allows editors to automatically add a P 18 statement from the results. When adding a P 18 statement, users will see a dialogue box they'll have to ok before the edit loads.
The development team is very excited to share these features with you, and we appreciate everyone's support throughout the development process!
