Collaborating with GLAM Structures: Armenian Content Replenished in 45 Wikipedias
Wiki Loves Yerevan International Edit-a-thon
This year Yerevan is celebrating its 2800th anniversary. In the frames of the wide range of events dedicated to Yerevan 2800, Wikimedia Armenia organized a one month international edit-a-thon contest in different language Wikipedias in collaboration with Yerevan Foundation. The aim of the contest was to increase the number of Yerevan-related content in the Internet in different languages. The edit-a-thon took place on June 15 - July 15. Editors from 45 Wikipedias were engaged in enriching Yerevan-related content and translating articles. Overall, 1165 articles were translated into 45 languages during Wiki Loves Yerevan International edit-a-thon only. The winners of the first 18 Wikipedias with the most earned points will visit Armenia in September and participate in Yerevan 2800th anniversary celebrations. The first 3 Wikipedias with the most earned points are Hebrew, Arabic and Serbian Wikipedias with 1268.5, 1031,5 and 936.0 points respectively. For more details see Meta The topics covered during international edit-a-thon included Yerevan history, architecture and architects, streets, Yerevan districts, notable people, writers, sportsmen born in Yerevan, as well as Yerevan landmarks.
Wiki Loves Yerevan GLAM collaboration
Prior to international edit-a-thon, Wikimedia Armenia continues the active collaboration with Yerevan cultural institutions (galleries and museums). By July 1, Wikimedia Armenia collaborates with 11 Yerevan museums and galleries. Saturday workshops are usually attended by editors and GLAM representatives who are also engaged in editing articles in Armenian Wikipedia and contributing to the dissemination of quality knowledge. One of the most successful collaborations with GLAM institutions is the collaboration with Alexander Tamanyan National Museum-Institute of Architecture. Established in 1990, this museum has unique materials on Armenian architecture both in Armenia and abroad, the history of Armenian architecture, urban development and more. In July 20-27 during Wiki camp organized in Aghveran and in collaboration with National Museum-Institute of Architecture one of the most important articles of Wiki Loves Yerevan project (article Alexander Tamanyan) was improved and replenished. Ani Grigoryan, Deputy Director of National Museum-Institute of Architecture, says: “This is a very good initiative. We hope to continue the collaboration with Wikimedia Armenia in the future and help to develop the content in Armenian Wikipedia on Armenian art, architecture and culture.”
