Welcome

edit

Hi Arseny1992, welcome to the outreach wiki! Thank you so much for implementing the syntax highlighting for the SQL queries on the Account Creation Improvement Project page. I didn't even know that existed ;-) --Frank Schulenburg 13:50, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The tags that aren't available in a standard MediaWiki installation, and extensions are listed on Special:Version ;) By the way, what is your sight of a "trusted user", that you give sysop rights to? Are you sure that the users will not abuse the rights? --Arseny1992 14:37, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
"Trusted" means that I always assume good faith. Users, who start contributing to this wiki, get admin rights easier than on other wikis. If someone abuses his rights, we can take them away. For me, trust is the foundation of working together. --Frank Schulenburg 16:00, 20 October 2010 (UTC) Reply

File deletions

edit

Hi Arseny, I see you have been cleaning up unused files. Great to have your help with this, but in a couple of cases the files you have deleted are important ones. I think I know how it might have happened: you may be looking only at whether an image is used inline on a wiki page. You might also want to check the "what links here" item in the left-hand navigation before concluding that a file is unused. -Pete F 17:33, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually I checked the what links here function before deleting each file, but this tool doesn't list the cases where the file is not embed but linked to (i.e. [[:File:filename.ext]])... Or maybe there was a replication lag, where file inclusions didn't show on WhatLinksHere right after the inclusion... Anyway, thanks for the tip! --Arseny1992 23:47, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I believe the article here [[1]] was needed for the student club outreach program, would you consider restoring it? Jab843 21:53, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
  Done. Also suppressed your IP, you didn't wanted for an anon edit to happen, right? --Arseny1992 10:58, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Recent removal of rights

edit

Hello. I just wanted to leave a formal note as a follow-up to an e-mail that you might received many hours ago about the removal of your rights from this site. Per a admittedly very brief discussion on the Village pump, multiple users supported cleaning up the list, both on and off the page. My goal of doing this was to get a better count of who was an active administrator, as well as purge the list in a move that is in line with other WMF wikis. However, should you still wish to be an administrator on Outreach, please leave me a message on my talk page, and I will promptly restore your rights as soon as I see the message. Thank you for your contributions to this site, and have a great day. Kevin Rutherford (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ktr101 (talkcontribs) 15:25, 24 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Admin review

edit

As you may have seen, I have contacted many admins who have been inactive. I am also messaging other admins who technically are not inactive but who have very few actions in the past year—some of whom have never used any admin tools here. I would like to know if you are interested in having these rights still. Please respond here with {{Ping}} to let me know. Thank you. Koavf (talk) 22:22, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Koavf: Yes, I do. --Arseny1992 (talk) 23:07, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Possible removal of user rights

edit

Per this Village pump thread and our Wikimedia:Inactivity policy, you are subject to having your advanced user rights removed. If you are interested in keeping them, you must respond here within 30 days using {{Ping|Koavf}} and explain that you'd like to keep them. If the rights are removed and you want to get them back later, you will have to lodge a formal request. Thank you. Koavf (talk) 07:47, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Koavf: I'd like to keep them here. May I? --Arseny1992 (talk) 08:07, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
And again. Please ping me if you need to retain these user rights. Koavf (talk) 04:11, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Koavf: Still around on Wikimedia, thanks for the heads-up. How the local inactivity policy would view inactive users who are retaining rights for technical reasons? I for instance long used the flag for the oathauth-enable right to set up an authenticator, and as OATHAuth is still not for the general public even though it enables 2FA globally, not having a functionary flag on any wiki would mean that in case I'll need to reset the authenticator, I won't be able to re-enable it, and pinging Wikitech operations for to recover account access in case if it breaks up due to access to a preferences special page being revoked, would be rather a cumbersome process, therefore I'm keeping sysop here. --Arseny1992 (talk) 05:03, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
The policy doesn't comprehend this. If you feel like it needs to be updated, you can propose that at the Village Pump. Koavf (talk) 05:08, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
