Education Program Extension on Latvian Wikipedia and New Education Program Pilot Project

edit

Dear Mārtiņš,

Sveiki! :) Welcome to the Wikipedia Education Program. :)

I'm so happy to see the Education Program Extension installed on Latvian Wikipedia. Thank you for leading the community discussion at the Kopienas portāls. Thank you for making the official request on Phabricator. And thank you for being an online volunteer for the first course! I saw that Latvijas Universitāte and Sociālie mediji un digitālā kultūra were added to Special:Institutions. That's great. It looks like it is working perfectly. If you encounter any difficulties, please let me know right away.

I've written a draft article about this for the monthly education newsletter (here in the newsroom). Please feel free to expand it! We published similar articles when the extension was enabled recently on Catalan Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia, and Dutch Wikipedia.

I've also created a page on Outreach wiki, the home of the education program portal, to document this pilot project: Education/Countries/Latvia. Feel free to edit it, too! :) You can see many other examples at Education/Countries. I hope you don't mind that I listed you as the main contact. :)

There are a variety of other resources on the education portal on Outreach wiki, including the new the Education Toolkit. You are a *very* experienced Wikipedian, but these students are probably newbies. There are two resources especially that can help them practice safely and later avoid making common mistakes: The Wikipedia Adventure and Training for Students. Both can be translated into Latvian language. :)

You mentioned that students will begin editing very soon: April-May. That's exciting! I'll look in on them now and then to see how they are doing and offer some encouragement. :) Please let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to email me anytime!

I'd also like to connect you with a fellow CEE Wikimedian, whom you may already know: [[User:Vojtěch Dostál]. Vojtěch is a veteran Education Program Leader and a mentor in the Education Collaborative. He's a really great guy with a ton of experience in the wiki world, in particular leading new editors of all ages online and offline. You can reach o--Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 18:05, 17 April 2015 (UTC)ut to him, too, with questions or problems.Reply

Mārtiņš, I'm happy for Latvian Wikipedia. :) And I very much want to see this pilot project succeed. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing from you soon! :)

Hi! I have been really busy lately, will expand my replies later. Today I was speaking in front of students and then we will proceed with assignments. I won't hesitate with questions :) --Papuass (talk) 13:19, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your contribution to the TED speakers challenge!

Any suggestions for improvement are welcome on the talkpage here: Talk:TED conferences/TED speakers challenge/Lessons learned. Please send me by anonymous email your address so TED can send you your 7th runner-up prize. Jane023 (talk) 20:53, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
and link is now fixed, thanks! :) Jane023 (talk) 21:41, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Jane023:, I did not quite understand "send me by anonymous email your address" part. Do you mean my mailing address using Special:Email? Can I choose "The Creative Mind"/"The Science Mind" or is random or decided by TED? --Papuass (talk) 08:35, 20 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Good question! Just send your preference and the answer is probably "first come, first served" and since you are the first to even ask this I expect you will get whichever you indicate. Yes I meant special email (email this user). If you are on facebook you can also message me, which a few others have done. I am trying to get all the addresses sent to NYC this week for shipment. Oh and if you want a certificate indicating your place as 7th runner-up let me know (it was a request by another participant, so I am making one anyway). --Jane023 (talk) 16:17, 20 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
