Vassia Atanassova - Spiritia

I've been the non-formal leader of the wiki educational activities in Bulgaria, with organization and mentoring of almost all of the initiatives listed here: Education/Countries/Bulgaria, as well as being the lecturer in the "Wikipedia and Wiki Technologies" elective course in Plovdiv University, especially dedicated to Wikipedia and wikis as core subject of study. I am author/co-author of several research papers (in Bulgarian) on the usage of wikis/Wikipedia in education, and have participated/lectured in WEP sessions on three Wikimania-s (2011, 2014, 2015). Sara Mörtsell (WMSE)

I've been the WEP manager of the Swedish chapter now for 1,5 years and in my second year we're seeing a nice increase of student activity. Translating the online training resources and the Education Extension to Swedish and for the Swedish Wikpedia has been useful to our program and I've also worked on developing a model for issuing digital (open) badges to recognize and validate the participants of the program. Roxana Sordo

I am an E.F.L. teacher and professor in Uruguay. I´ve been working in the Wikipedia Education Program in Uruguay since 2013. I have launched a Wikipedia Assignment Project at Instituto de Profesores Artigas called "Wikipedia: a Learning Community in Foreign Languages" which has received an award by the Education Board in Uruguay. We teach teachers-to-be digital and linguistic skills and we try to reduce the gender gap. I am interested in mentoring and translating material from English into Spanish. I have created rubrics, self-evaluation forms on reading strategies, and a Wikipedia article writing evaluation form. I am translating the Education Extension to Spanish and some Education brochures that will be useful for the Spanish-speaking communities. I am author/co-author of some articles on using Wikipedia as a teaching tool in Portal Uruguay Educa in June 2014 in Spanish and in August 2014 in English, at Foro de Lenguas and Education Outreach Newsletter in June 2014 and in June 2015. I have made some workshops and presentations about the Education Program in Uruguay. I have participated in the Education Program Pre-Conference and in a panel in Wikimania 2015. I have organized WLE Uruguay 2015. I have a Master degree in Education. Professor and program leader ‎in Cairo University in WEP in Egypt since Spring 2013. I am interested in translating material from spanish to arabic and vice versa to facilitate my work in the program and any international conference, introducing WEP in every ocassion and translating the page of Egypt Wikimedians on Meta into spanish, and updating our statistics in WEP from the beginning till the sixth term. Also, i wrote two Newsletter posts for March and May issues here and here. In Wikimania 2015, i had a prsentation about Pitfalls, Protocols and Prior Planning: a Panel on Making the Most of the Education Program with more than 14 Panelists. I participated on World café & Hackathon on Learning Patterns with Kacie Harold (Education Program Pre-Conference), with the translation class room as a main topic. I made a lot of workshops and presentations about the Education Program in Egypt and outside. Raphael Berchie

I am an active Wikimedian from Ghana and a member of the Wikimedian User Grop Ghana. Hello Selsharbaty (WMF) I am the grantee and one of of the trainers for Wiki Needs Girls.This is a pilot and we are currently done with the schools in Accra and have began setting up a club on the campus. Upon completion we will use this model to help us scale up an education project I am currently in talk with some institutions in Ghana to start the Wiki Education project too in Ghana. I am a Wikimedian since 2010. I am active on en-wiki, ml-wiki and Commons. In 2011, I worked as an online ambassador for the Wikipedia education program in India. I was involved in article selection for offline Wikipedia for Indian schools. I was a panelist at Pitfalls, Protocols and Prior Planning: a Panel on Making the Most of the Education Program at Wikimania 2015. Presently, I am working on a GLAM project involving uploading annotated pathology images for use for medical students. Liang-chih Shang Kuan

Board member of Wikimedia Taiwan since Winter 2013. I am interested in translating material from English to Chinese and vice versa to facilitate my work in Wikimedia Movement. In 2013 I joined the Pre Conference Education Program Workshopof Wikimania in Hong Kong and post an article of the workshop in Taipei Wikimedian collaborative blog Chinese. Last year I have translated the major part of the report Chapters Dialogue into Chinese, and also the major part of student online training of editing Wikipedia into Chinese. From the help of Anna Koval, I contribute one Newsletter post for August 2014 issue (see here). I have also applied and completed PEG grant for the translation of Edit Wikipedia brochure. Education coordinator of Wikimedia Argentina since 2014.  Specialist in technology and education, makes researches, designs and develops programs for foundations and educational ministries. Professor and researcher at the University of Buenos Aires and the Latin American Social Sciences Institute. And member of the board of Girls in Tech Argentina (actually we are developing a program to teach programming to teenagers for reduce the gender and digital gap). I always want to share and help to spread education issues. I wrote in the Newsletter about Massive distance learning courses, Gender gap in education, Educational Edithaton and Digital Education policies. I'm from Wikimedia Hong Kong, the Project Coordinator of the Wikipedia Education Program, since 2014. I'm interested in the Education Program related to literature and linguistics, as the articles related to literature and linguistics on Wikipedia are not as numerous as other topics. I have just finished the very first Wikipedia Education Program in Hong Kong and we have collected 17 new entries in the pilot program. I am planning to start the second Education Program in the coming January. I am also interested in GLAM-Wiki, and I was one of the Program Committee of GLAM-Wiki 2015. Currently, I am working on both Wikipedia Education Program and GLAM-Wiki Project in Hong Kong.

Felix Nartey

I am from Ghana, the community manager for the Wikimedia Usergroup here and a grantee for the Wiki Needs Girls campaign which trained female/girls mostly youth to edit Wikipedia and to surge their interest towards becoming tech-savvy. I also attended the pre-conference at WMCON 15 where i joined the session on the education program, I learnt more about the program and have since been working on pilot projects to ensure success when we finally roll out fully.

I have led a pilot Kiwix installation project with the aim of acquainting high school students (our target group) to the platform and to better understand or identify possible problems that may arise before we fully roll out an education project which is in the works for early next year. • Hi Selsharbaty (WMF), I led a team that trained about 50 female high school students at the Accra Senior High School on how to contribute to Wikipedia. It took three different sessions in three different days to complete the training, we deliberately broke the training to enable the students make sense of what was taught at each point and avoid clustering their minds with something they weren't conversant with. During the training we realized the difficulty in getting them to understand some basic things due to their inability to comprehend with basic functions such as right click, CTRL button, etc. In short we had to do training in this area aside our main cause. The students appreciated our efforts and insisted we created a whats-app group after, for when they encountered problems. We did and through this medium have continued to mentor them along the way. We have however now trained the responsible teacher hoping to set up a club responsible for Wikimedia activities in the school sometime this year.

My name is Tim Ruijters. Since 2011 I have been active on the Dutch Wikiversity. I put a lot of energy in finding more Dutch people to collaborate in learning project. In almost 4 years I created 5000 pages. Unfortunately I wasn't able to convince many people to join me. In 2015 some people from Wikipedia joined the project, but according to them all 5000 pages did not meet the standards and all pages were deleted. At first I was furious: in just a few weeks they destroyed all my work, but after a few weeks I realised that I should look at it as a learning experience.

After this event I started working on my own website www.kizumba.nl and just recently I founded Part-up wiki (https://partup.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page). Part-up (www.part-up.com) is a Dutch initiative that supports people working online.

I like working on Part-up wiki, but I also would like to create a Dutch Wikiversity. In my opinion Wikiversity should not only be a place for learning material, but also a place where people can learn: ask questions, have discussions.

This year I want to give the Dutch Wikiversity a restart, but now I'm going to do this together with the Dutch community and by starting with a vision.

Today I started a discussion in the pub to form a team and create a vision. See https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:De_kroeg#Zusterprojecten. I'm very happy that Sandra Rientjes, director of the Dutch chapter, is willing to support this team.

I'm Nahid Sultan from Bangladesh. I've been working in the Wikipedia education programs in Bangladesh since 2014. I've conducted a number of Wikipedia University Workshops in all of the seven divisional cities (ee. am the first person to do so) of Bangladesh. I'm currently leading the "awareness building secondary school education programs", which aims to increase Bangla Wikipedia readers and mentoring the wiki-clubs in various universities. Other than that I do chapter works voluntarily — working for Wikimedia Bangladesh as a 'Community Outreach Director' and serving as a secretary of it's executive committee. Romaine

Hello! Since 2014 I am active in education in the Netherlands and Belgium. I have done projects at 6 universities/colleges, organised 4 courses, and organised or participated in 26 education sessions/trainings/workshops. In Belgium I support/organise education activities as board member, together with my colleague board member. In the Netherlands I am involved in most of the education projects, as organiser or provider of practical support, and by doing this supporting the parttime staff member in Wikimedia Nederland. For the Dutch Wikipedia, used in both countries, as well as an English version, I developed and maintain the infrastructure used for project management in education and GLAM projects to have a smoothly process during courses and other sessions (Dutch/English). In earlier years I extensively tested the education extension implemented on the Dutch Wikipedia, made a list of feedback to improve in the extension, and maintain the onwiki infrastructure surrounding the extension. Further I have set up the complete documentation about the education program for the Netherlands and Belgium.

Most activities in education in the Benelux (Belgium/the Netherlands) have been organised together with Maastricht University. Currently I organise a course in Maastricht University, and because of the past years of collaboration I got involved in the lustrum activities of the university as this year the university exists 40 years. They like to organise a writing week for students in September, and I suggested to also hold a knowledge session/workshop for the staff of the university so they better know how they can collaborate with Wikipedia. Upcoming courses/sessions also will be in Maastricht in Autumn, and in Kortrijk. Other universities that have shown interest are or are thoughts about, are Rotterdam, Gent, Brussels (VUB & ULB) and Louvain.

After talks at the past Wikimedia Conference 2016 in Berlin, I have fully translated the Wikipedia Education Program Dashboard to Dutch. Further we think to publish multiple educational brochures in Dutch/French.

And now I discovered the Wikipedia Education Collaborative that sounds interesting to me to bring the education projects to the next level. In the collab I am looking for inspiration for other approaches, sharing ideas, learn how the measure indirect output and more metrics, having a soundboard, all of this because it feels too much I/we tried to invent the wheel, and I now would like to know how other teams do it. Further I hope to inspire others with how we have organised our education program. What I would like to do in the collab is to make "Wikipedia in Education" more described from the non-default view why it is important to use Wikipedia in education. Of course it is obvious to have Wikipedia used in education, but this should be better presented in Wikimedia's communication, so that those universities that are not yet convinced, get easier convinced and at least inspired by our provided information.
