Wikivoyage edit-a-thon - Editing Albania and Kosovo’s travel destinations
Hosting the edit-a-thon online
Aiming to improve the coverage of travel destinations in Albania and Kosovo, Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group on the first weekend of August (8&9 August) hosted an online edit-a-thon on Wikivoyage. Although initially, we were planning to meet and edit together, we had to adapt to the circumstances and organize the event on an online platform.
To promote the event, we shared it on our UG’s other social media channels, announced it on Wikivoyage’s Travellers’ Pub, and asked relevant tourism institutions to share it on their channels too.
Results of the edit-a-thon
Members of our UG were online from 10:00 - 19:00 on both dates to offer help for new editors, answer questions, and discuss our contributions together. The participants didn't need to be online at all times, they could simply drop-in, ask a question and continue their edits
We used the WMF Labs’ dashboard tracking to calculate the results which show us that 30 articles were edited and 4 articles were created during this weekend.
This is the 3rd time we host Wikivoyage edit-a-thons, the first one being in 2017 and the next one in 2019. We plan to continuously push forward the idea of contributing to the free worldwide travel guide.
