First Pride Wiki Editathon held in Prague
Wikimedia Czech republic and the Prague Pride festival cooperation
After a long spring, during which most of the activities were run in the online space due to lockdown, we decided to run our first event in a brick and mortar location. We teamed up with the Prague Pride festival, which was planned for the first week of August, and established details related to Wiki Pride editathon.
The event took place on 6th of August in the very heart of the city, Vaclav Havel library. We managed to ensure great support from our lecturers (4 in total).
Need for change
The event went smoothly. We got positive feedback from participants. For the majority, it was the first time they participated in an editathon and they could focus on writing the articles thanks to the support of lecturers. Even though there were only a few participants, they managed to create some valuable articles on Wikipedia. One of the extensive articles, which was translated into Czech focused on an Annemarie Schwarzenbach [1] biography, another one presented a subject of LGBTQ+ psychology [2]. We definitely see that there is a gap when it comes to LGBT community topics on Wikimedia and with our lecturers being involved, we would like to plan some more activities in the future.
