KulTour in Swabia and 8000 documents new online
KulTour in Swabia – Gaps in biographies 1933 to 1945
Inspite of the Covid-situation six Wikimedians met in Kaufbeuren, a small town in Swabia, southern Germany and met in person for a KulTour in Kaufbeuren. This edition of a KulTour (the little sister of a GLAM on Tour) focussed especially on National Socialism. Especially in rural areas, coming to terms with the German Nazi past has proven especially difficult. According to recent findings, it is precisely this rural area that is said to have supported the Nazi regime by a broad majority.
The special exhibition Kaufbeuren under the swastika made this particularly clear. The occasion for this exhibition was not only the retrospectively criticized presentation of National Socialism in the Stadtmuseum, which was newly opened only a few years ago. For decades, German literature concealed the past of numerous high-ranking personalities during the dictatorship. Anyone who recognizes gaps or inconsistencies in biographies between 1933 and 1945/48 can often use this as a reason for further research on Wikipedia articles using recent research in the area.
The long-term goal is to organize further joint events for the encyclopedia and to exchange information.

The Brandenburgian State Main Archive published about 8000 documents from its oldest holdings online. These are a total of 51300 scans in the archive database, which make it possible to recognize even the smallest details of the documents and their seals. Further documents will follow in the coming months. Further information can be found on the website of the Landeshauptarchiv.
