NNW, thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for the map and the imagemap! This really helps and I'm really happy! :) I'll get back to you soon about the other countries. Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 20:51, 21 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Question?

edit

Hey NNW, just one quick question: what am I doing wrong? :) I tried to add {{Outreach_world_map}} to the education programs page below the __NOTOC__, but it didn't work in the preview. Do I lack the necessary special super powers? Please advise. Thanks! Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 21:05, 21 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I just added it in the preview and it worked fine. No super powers needed. Btw: if you want to have a bigger map you just have to increase the 750px in the template. NordNordWest (talk) 07:44, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, it must be talking to you that did it because this time it worked like a charm! ;) Thanks, NNW. Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 19:46, 22 May 2014 (UTC) Template:Outreach world mapReply
Impressive work by NNW, you/we are lucky he was around. :) BTW, which imagemap tool did you used ? The end result is extremly precise... Yug (talk) 00:12, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Impressive is an understatement, Yug! It's perfect and I'm proudly displaying it already. :) Not sure what tool NNW used to perform this feat. Magic is my guess! ;) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 00:20, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
NNW, what should we do when we want to add additional countries? Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 00:20, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I used Dapete's tool for it. Additional countries can be made with it, too, but it is important that links lead to existing pages. Right now the pages for the six countries which I mentioned above do not exists. First of all these links should be fixed because the template is already in use, then I need the page names for new links. NordNordWest (talk) 08:01, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Update

edit

Hi NordNordWest! :)

My colleague Tighe just returned from a trip to the Arab World and was very excited to try out our new map since it seemed like it would be fairly straightforward to update using Dapete's tool. Turns out it takes quite a lot of artistry and patience to skillfully draw each new poly. Thank you for the care you put into doing that so adeptly. :)

Back to Tighe... He updated the ImageMap to remove the links to Cameroon, Myanmar, and Qatar, which we do not wish to include at this time. And he attempted to update the image to match, but had some issues with dimensions, and, um accidentally sort of broke the map. :\ (Praise be the revert button!) :) So while we think we've got an idea of how to use the tool, we're clearly not getting the right results! :)

So... could you, would you please update the map for us? <3 Gray: Cameroon, Myanmar, and Qatar. Blue: Uganda. Also, there are now pages for Canada, Netherlands, Uganda, and Yemen so those links can point to the right places. And lastly, all of the pages linked in the template point to Education/Programs, but we've redirected those pages to Education/Countries. Is it possible to do a find and replace for that? It should still work even if we don't, but might be good to clean that up too, while we're in there fixing other things.

Going forward, we'd love to have to you teach us how you're using this tool and we could use some instructions for updating the map with the correct dimensions, so that in the future, we won't have to be a constant bother to you! :)

NNW, I want you to know that I really really appreciate your expertise and your time, and I'm so proud of this map! Full disclosure: I boast about it and you every chance I get. :)

Hello! I already updated the map yesterday and added the link to Uganda, too. :o) Perhaps you still see the old version of the map, you will have to empty your browser cache. The find/replace thing was a job for a simple text editor. I think it would be the best thing to create all areas for all countries and just turn them unvisible as long as they are not needed or you create a still missing but if you want to start something in your country then... page. I am a bit busy right now so any explanation about updating the map has to wait. NordNordWest (talk) 09:43, 31 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
No worries, NordNordWest. We'll follow up later on. Til then, take care, and thank you so much once again!! :) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 12:33, 20 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
