70th edition of Avignon festival
For the third year in a row, an edit-a-thon took place in Avignon, which welcomes every year the Avignon Festival, an arts festival held in the courtyard of the Palais des Papes, and in other locations of the city. Founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar, it is the oldest extant festival in France. This year 5 articles were created and 5 were enriched by wikimedians on site, around 3 main topics: modern creation in Middle-East, danse at Avignon Festival, places of the Festival.
The year again, wikimedians were at the maritime festival Brest 2016 taking pictures of historical ships and improving articles about these ships. More than a thousand files were uploaded on Commons:Category:Brest 2016.

Photos and edit-a-thon in Mazamet
France is changing its subdivisions, with several regions merging together. One of the new regions, Occitanie, will be home of two existing local groups : Toulouse, who has been active for several years, and Montpellier, who is younger. The two groups decided to meet in Mazamet, a small town with a strong industrial past in wool. The morning was a photo hunt in the city, lunch was about sharing ideas and projects, and, during the afternoon, an edit-a-thon in the library about local history.
