Translation request

edit

I am reaching out to people who have translated pages here at Wikimedia Outreach to assist with translating pages at Wikimedia LGBT. If you are willing and able, any assistance would be appreciated. If not, I understand. Thanks for your consideration. --Another Believer (talk) 22:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

New Welcome page

edit

Hi!

Since you did this change, the Welcome message in French has become ununderstandable. I tried to translate it in the page Welcome/fr but the new template is not linked to this page. I suppose I should copy the correct translation on Translatewiki, but I'm not sure. Could you help me to understand these mysteries?

Merci ! --Wikinade (talk) 07:39, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi! There was a change in the template itself. One cannot translate Template:Welcome now, but the text used in it is traslated on Template:Welcome/text (it is mentioned on the template page). And the Template:Welcome/text/fr does exist. -- Ата (talk) 10:43, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the links. I (But imo this “translate extension” is an awful system: I lost a quarter of an hour for only ten small lines...) Well, too bad for me. :/
Best regards, --Wikinade (talk) 12:48, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Don't say so, you'll feel it useful after you get used to it, I hope. It is much easier to translate text splitted in parts. I might have made it more difficult to find where translations are, sorry for that
Btw, you should keep translations close to the original. I don't understand French but when I look at this diff I see that you have removed link onto the user talkpage from the text. That's not the way to do it. -- Ата (talk) 14:15, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Oh the link! It was just a mistake. Thanks again.   --Wikinade (talk) 14:26, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome   And a small suggestion. When you're on the Special:Translate page you can add &tux=0 in the end of the adress line in your browser. This will show a page in it's old look. As for me, I like the former extension appearance much more then today's. Be so kind to try it and tell me what you think about it. Thanks -- Ата (talk) 14:36, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the tip, but my difficulties come from the system itself, not from one or another version of the extension. I'm a professional translator. And I do not know how to translate a text paragraph by paragraph. I need to consider all occurrences of a term before opting for its best equivalent. Micro-editing makes me crazy. I want to do things in one shot, in one window, with a comment of my diff. So I gave up… :(
Bad news for what you're working on (which is surely very useful to others). I don't like to complain, sorry. Encore merci. --Wikinade (talk) 13:26, 7 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for butting in but that sounds quite sad :( Problem is that for non-pro-translators it's usually vice versa - much easier to translate by small parts than all text at once. We should find some solution for your way of work :) As the last measure perhaps you may just translate it's on separate page like via old system and then put ready text into units? As the lastest you may ask e.g. me to make putting of ready translation into system. --Base (talk) 14:17, 7 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Admin review

edit

As you may have seen, I have contacted many admins who have been inactive. I am also messaging other admins who technically are not inactive but who have very few actions in the past year—some of whom have never used any admin tools here. I would like to know if you are interested in having these rights still. Please respond here with {{Ping}} to let me know. Thank you. Koavf (talk) 22:22, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Koavf:, thanks for reaching me. I don't think I'll ever do admin actions in this wiki, since my primary activity is in translations. So no need to further keep me an admin. -- Ата (talk) 07:45, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
