Updates and invitation to test the Commons Impact Metrics prototype

GLAM Wiki Conference
We were thrilled to participate in GLAM Wiki 2023. In the lead-up to the conference, the community identified technical capacity as a key concern for discussion. Responding to this need:
- Selena Deckelmann gave the keynote, inviting GLAM professionals and volunteers to help her make Wikimedia multigenerational. Selena also contributed to a pre-conference panel discussion, AI and the Knowledge Society.
- The AI discussion continued in a workshop with Silvia, Giovanna, Paula Durán, and Jonathan Jiménez Salazar: Co-Creating an AI Responsive GLAM-Wiki Curriculum.
- The Culture and Heritage team demoed two product collaborations: Commons Impact Metrics and an alt text structured task on mobile.
- Five staff from the Foundation’s product team were at the conference, listening and learning through many 1:1 and small group meetings with volunteers, affiliate staff, and partners.
The Culture and Heritage team got to enjoy in-person time with affiliate staff, volunteers, partners (such as the Flickr Foundation, DPLA, Creative Commons, and OpenRefine) and networks (such as Wikisource Loves Manuscripts and 1Lib1Ref).
Satdeep celebrated the diverse GLAM Wiki network by taking portraits of the attendees, which are available on Commons as Faces of GLAM Wiki.
Commons Impact Metrics
The Commons Impact Metrics project responds to community feedback that reliable and well-maintained metrics are essential for partnerships with libraries and cultural institutions. In the first stage of the project, we analysed the community-developed GLAM Metrics Needs page and commonly-used tools, such as BaGLAMa2, GLAMorgan, and GLAM-Wiki Dashboard.
We showed a prototype at the GLAM Wiki Conference in November and now we're opening it up for anyone to test. Here is how you can help:

Wikisource Loves Manuscripts
- The Wikisource Loves Manuscripts pilot in Indonesia concluded with a proofread-a-thon in collaboration with UNESCO Jakarta, focusing on a Javanese text inscribed in the Memory of the World register. 30 participants transcribed 60+ pages on manuscripts on Wikisource. You can read more on Diff.
- The Learning Partners Network has participated in four sessions so far, covering partnerships, Wikisource, advanced digitisation training, and Transkribus. There were many Wikisource sessions at the GLAM Wiki Conference and an informal meet-up for members of the Learning Partners Network.
- We also celebrated 20 years of Wikisource with a Diff post and social media toolkit.
Flickypedia
- Following a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference, the Flickr Foundation released a Flickypedia alpha for testing. This includes new features to: reduce risk and emphasise responsible licensing; prevent duplicates of Flickr photos on Commons; make it easier to find Flickr photos on Commons; and thank the original Flickr contributors. Please share any feedback on this discussion page.
- The Flickr Foundation also made a successful Wikidata property request for Flickr Photo ID. They plan to use this property to backfill structured data on the >10 million images that are already on Wikimedia Commons. The related bot request is still open for discussion.
