Content partnerships talk edit

I am looking to organize a session at the Gov 2.0 Expo [1] in DC this May, to talk about content partnerships between governments/public institutions and open source projects including both OpenStreetMap and Wikimedia projects. I forgot about the deadline for submissions, but it is tonight.

I'm getting something together now (will be out for an hour, though). Although, participants are not definitely confirmed, I do have people to talk about OSM and confident about getting people together to talk about Wikimedia (at worst case, I do all the talking myself). If you have suggestions, please let me know. Assuming the session gets accepted, I will continue to work on it and may need additional advice later. Aude 00:59, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

They extended the deadline for submission to January 6, so there is some opportunity to improve the submission. Aude 21:56, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

watchlist e-mail notifications on outreach wiki edit

Hi Frank,

(I haven't found the village pump here so I'm writing to you.) Is it possible to enable the option for watchlist e-mail notifications for this wiki? I would find it quite useful.

Public Policy Initiative project edit

Hi Frank,

Who is eligible to apply for the Wikipedia Campus Ambassador Training? And is it restricted to persons living in the US only or anyone in the world can apply for it? And how do you apply for it? Regards, Abbasjnr 05:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Frank could probably answer this in more detail, but I'll give it a shot. For now, the Campus Ambassadors program is going to be limited to the schools that are participating in the first phases of the Public Policy Initiative, a small number of U.S. schools. But the idea is to eventually make it a worldwide program; at this point, it's still very much an in-development project, and there will probably be some open discussions soon about what shape it should take.--Sage Ross 13:16, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hi Abbasjnr: as Sage mentions, right now we are primarily looking for students at particular U.S. universities to be the Campus Ambassadors. We also highly encourage Wikipedians (student or not) to apply for this position, although due to the scope of the Public Policy Initiative we are currently recruiting only U.S.-based Wikipedians, with preference given to Wikipedians living near the participating universities. The plan is to expand beyond the U.S. in the future, but at least at this point we are still limiting our recruitment efforts to the U.S. I am not sure where exactly you are based, but if you are interested in getting involved either now or in the future, please let us know! Thank you. Annie Lin 17:02, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hiya Frank! Thanks for the sysop bit. I notice that Special:Import is disabled here, is it possible to enable it? Of course this is not a huge deal, manual attribution is always an option. Just checking though, cheers! Arbitrarily0 (talk) 16:39, 18 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you're welcome. How can I enable Special:Import? Is it something that the developers have to enable? --Frank Schulenburg 18:59, 18 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
A consensus must be made on enabling this and the import sources. Also, I can help around and be a WikiGnome, and thus you can give sysop. I-20 02:20, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm ok with enabling it. How are we going to proceed? --Frank Schulenburg 15:42, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Late meetings edit

Hello Frank,

Unfortunally, the meeting today/tonight went from being reasonably late to the middle of the night, so I cannot join this meeting either. I would have liked to, but since I was up the previous night, I will be dead to the world tomorrow if I had participated. But I will read the minutes and would like to meet about the other thing later. When will be convenient for you?//Hannibal 17:33, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Although I haven't contributed here much (yet), I'm active in multiple Wikimedia projects. I'm very interested in Contribution Team/Outreach activities, but it's come to my attention that this wiki needs some maintenance. Would you mind granting rights so I could work a little on maintenance here. Thanks, Mono 03:47, 14 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mono, what kind of maintenance are you thinking of? --Frank Schulenburg 22:39, 17 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner...I was thinking of mainly updating outdated information (see main page), shortening the sidebar (it's longer than most of the content), importing content like this (for the ACIP) and various other tasks as they come up. Additionally, I've sent you an email, in case you missed it. Thanks, Mono 02:20, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Where can users comment and help with writing materials on the bookshelf before they get printed? I heard a few complaints about the Welcome leaflet (and I agree to them) and would like to know where they can be submitted: discussion pages here seem neglected. --Elitre 09:49, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

For your information edit

You'll need to have a look at everything that "has been removed from public view" to get a full picture. Please remember to drop me a line that all has your full approval. You might not want to upset one of your more dedicated volunteers. On the other end it might be time to remove that line "Outreach Wiki needs you." It sounds so out of place. Have fun. Virgilio A. P. Renaming request - கலை to Kalaiarasy edit

I'm living in Norway. Mainly, I'm a Tamil wiki contributor and I created the account with a username in Tamil. I did do a few edits in en.wiki and no.wiki too. I had problem in using the Soxred tool 'cos of this Tamil name. Besides, I felt that it would be nice to have my username in English (that everyone can read), and thus asked for renaming in ta.wiki. My username was then changed to Kalaiarasy (that is my first name) in ta.wiki. My username is not changed in all other wikis. As all other accounts except ta.wiki is still in my old name, there is a confusion, it seemed. The edits that I make with the new username is not being updated in the list of 'My contributions' or in the list of 'Pages created by me'. Therefore, please kindly rename my previous username 'கலை' with my new username Kalaiarasy in all wikis as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.--கலை (talk) 00:14, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

user:Hannibal has done the renaming. Just want to let you know as I made a request here too. Thanks. --Kalaiarasy (talk) 14:32, 18 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

a) Special:Version says the extension is already installed. b) Wikimedia wikis don't work the same way that you'd expect; for config changes file a bug for developers. c) I've fixed it. Mono (talk) 00:42, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia trifft Altertum edit

Hallo Frank.

Wikipedia / Wikimedia partnership with new WikiQueer project? edit

Greetings, I am the sysop and public representative for a new Wiki project, WikiQueer - specifically for the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning) communities - that supplements the LGBTQ content on Wikipedia with other resources, talking points and information pertaining to the LGBTQ population. We will be soft launching in the next few days with a grand opening later this year. I am very interested in partnering and supporting Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation in whatever ways we can. A number of international, national and local nonprofit organizations and community leaders have already signed onto the project or are preparing to publicly join in the coming months.

I am hoping that as Wikimedia Foundation's Head of Public Outreach, you can help us navigate a possible partnership. We're especially keen on helping convey that we support Wikipedia and are trying to expand on and enhance that experience rather than challenge or compete. Any feedback on the WikiQueer project itself is also appreciated. We're also actively seeking individuals within or supportive of queer communities to join our Global Advisory Board if you or others you know may be interested.

Thank you in advance for your time and I appreciate all of the inspiring work you and everyone at the Wikimedia Foundation are doing!! --Varnent (talk) 07:16, 1 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Vielen Dank! edit

Thank you Frank for welcoming me to the Ambassador Program. It's my first semester to use Wikipedia in the classroom. Our students here at USI, as well as elsewhere, know the kind of visibility that Wikipedia has on the Internet, and I've already seen signs of increased motivation about the journalism project, on which I have had students work in the past. I wished I had found out about this program earlier! It's a learning process for us all as I modify the assignment to Wikipedia, but the buzz factor is helping us as we work out the typical problems one has in shifting ways of doing things. I'll let you know how it all works it! Best, Crtew (talk) 03:52, 21 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

ITESM-CCM Mexico edit

Saludos from Mexico! Im Leigh Thelmadatter en:Thelmadatter, an English prof at ITESM-Campus Ciudad de México. I have been working the last few months or so "selling" the idea of Wikipedia to my school. I current teach four independent study students, whose projects are based in Wikipedia and I started Club Wikipedia at my school. The Club and the independent study students worked on an informal project, creating articles related to the en:Festival Internacional Cervantino in English and Spanish and a number of them contacted participating artists for photographs and info. One student in particular en:ItzelP worked very hard, making contacts with Festival staff and even procuring press passes! She was selected for a grant to attend GLAM camp in Holland because of this work. Because of this and because of the excellent presentation Campus Ambassador Matt Senate did yesterday at the campus(27 Oct), the administration is very interested in working with Wikipedia/Wikimedia in a more amplified way. Liam suggested that I get in touch with you for help and advice. I sure could use any you can spare!!!! Thelmadatter (talk) 21:49, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
